Council

 The Council is the body in which representatives of all the Federation's components (National Societies, Regions, Committees, WCA COC Chair) meet to discuss matters which concern the Federation as a whole.

The Council gives advice and recommendations on policy and subjects of common interest to the Federation. This is presented to the Board and should also be disseminated to the General Assembly and member National Societies by the Council. All members of the Board also sit on the Council.

Dr Davy Cheng (Canada), Chair, Scientific Affairs Committee

Dr Cheng is Distinguished University Professor & Chair / Chief of  the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at The University of Western Ontario, Canada. He is also Professor in  the Division of Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine at UWO, and Chair of Evidence-based Perioperative Clinical Outcomes Research (EPiCOR) at UWO.

Dr Douglas Bacon (USA), Chair, Publications Committee

Dr Bacon is a Consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology, Mayo Clinic Professor of Anesthesiology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is also Professor of History of Medicine, Vice-Chair for Faculty Development, Department of Anesthesiology, Mayo Clinic and Chair of the Section of Anesthesia History, Department of Anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic.

Gastao Duval

Dr Gastão Duval Neto (Brazil), Chair, Professional Wellbeing Committee

Gastão qualified as Professor of Anesthesiology from the Medical School of Federal University of Pelotas, UFPel, Brazil. He holds a PhD title by the Federal University of São Paulo, UNIFesp, Brazil. He served as President of the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology (SBA) in the year 2000.

He is the Chair of Professional Wellbeing Committee of the WFSA as well as the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology, and the Chief of the Training Centre in Anesthesiology of Federal University of Pelotas in UFPel, Brazil.

Gastão is the Editor of the 'Occupational Well-Being of Anaesthesiologists' book. Published in 2013 by the Brazilian Society of Anaesthetists, the publication brings together 17 papers from leading academics and practitioners concerned with the very real issues facing the health of anaesthesiologists around the world.

Dr Fauzia Khan (Pakistan), Chair, Safety & Quality Committee

Dr Khan has been Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, Pakistan since 1997. She is also a Life Member of the Pakistan Society of Anaesthesiology, and was a member of the WFSA Scientific Affairs Committee from 2008 - 2016.

Pierrer Fiset

Dr Pierre Fiset (Canada)

Dr Fiset is has completed his residency training at Laval and McGill University. He did a research fellowship in clinical pharmacology at Stanford under the supervision of Drs Donald Stanski and Steven Shafer in 1990-2. He went back on staff at McGill at the Royal Victoria Hospital and, since 2006, he is the Pediatric Anesthesia Department Head at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Professor Patricia Yazbeck (Lebanon)

Professor Yazbeck is a Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the St Joseph University,Beirut and has been a full time physician in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at Hotel-Dieu de France Hospital since 1982. Dr. Hugo Van Aken has been Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, Intensive-Care Medicine and Pain Therapy at the University Hospital in Münster, Germany, since August 1995. From 1986 to 1995, he was Professor and Chair at the Department of Anesthesiology at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.
