Innovative medical devices offer the prospect of revolutionary healthcare. This meeting will explore the complementary perspectives of people, NICE and industry in the development, appraisal and use of these innovations.

This meeting aims to help you:
  • Understand that engagement of people in the development of medical devices used in anaesthesia and intensive care is different because the loss of consciousness and sedation means that patient perspectives of the devices will not available
  • Reconcile that NICE wants to recommend safe, effective and cost-saving medical devices against the public requirement for effective healthcare at any cost, and industrial considerations for income generation
  • Consider that digital technologies on platforms such as smartphones may require different types of evidence for clinical efficacy than other medical devices

There will be ample opportunities for audience and panel discussion, as we consider perspectives from the public, healthcare professionals, industry and NICE.
