Applications now open: WFSA-BARTC Fellowship in Bangkok, Thailand, 2017
The WFSA is proud to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2017 General Anaesthesia Fellowship at the Bangkok Anaesthesia Regional Training Centre (BARTC). The fellowship is open to anaesthesiologists from Asian countries.
Trainees will study full time for 1 year in the Departments of Anaesthesiology of designated hospitals. They will spend the first 6 months in a medical school hospital in Bangkok, and then 4 months in 2 provincial hospitals. The last month will be back to the medical school to prepare for and sit the final examination. The trainees will have hands-on training in the operating rooms, and will be allowed to take part in patient care.
This programme is taught in English, to enable the training of fellows from various countries, targeted in the Asian region. However, communication with Thai patients will be necessary, and so it is strongly encouraged that trainees try to get at least preliminary use of Thai in their homeland, before leaving for Bangkok.
Previous fellowship alumni have come from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Bhutan, and Mongolia.
How to apply:
The trainee will have to submit documents in advance to prove that he/she has:
1. A permanent post in a government teaching hospital.
2. A degree in medicine.
3. Good spoken and written English language skills.
4. Prior experience in anaesthesia for at least 3 years in his/her own country (evidence of previous training, number of cases and techniques done in the last 3 years).
Applicants will be interviewed via telephone.
The fellowship will commence on 15 January 2017, and will last for 1 year. The closing deadline for applications is 5th September 2016.
