Applications Open: Obstetric Anaesthesia Fellowships at University of Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Applications are invited for two fellowship positions in 2020 at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Kuala Lumpur. The duration of each fellowship is 6 months, with the first fellowship expected to commence on 1st March 2020, and the second on 1st September 2020.
UMMC is a 1000-bed general hospital with a special obstetric and paediatric wing for the management of obstetric and paediatric cases. Being a premier teaching and referral hospital in the heart of the country, approximately 6000 babies are delivered annually with a caesarean section rate of about 20-25%.
UMMC offers a 24-hour epidural service and manages high-risk patients collaboratively with other supporting departments/units. It caters to the special needs of patients and increasingly uses ultrasound to assist with the insertion of regional analgesia and anaesthesia for selected patients. UMMC also offers obstetric anaesthesia training for post-graduate students in the Malaysian Master of Anaesthesiology Training Program.
The WFSA Fellowship is intended for anaesthesiologists working in low resource settings, who wish to develop knowledge and skills in the field of obstetric anaesthesia. Successful applicants must agree to return to their home country at the completion of the fellowship.
Priority will be given to applicants aged less than 40 from Asian member countries, but older applicants and applicants from other regions will also be considered.
The fellowship offers funding for tuition costs, accommodation and subsistence living expenses.
